Berkhamsted Collegiate School

The WWI Index

Berkhamsted School lost 233 students during World War I, whose names now appear on the memorial outside the school chapel.

The Online Index contains a record for each Berkhamstedian, detailing the rank and regiment of the individual as well as information on their life at school and place of burial (if known).

The average age of death was just 22, the youngest only 12, torpedoed by the German submarine U20. Pupils from all three forces fought for Britain, France, Canada, South Africa and Austrailia.

If you know the Casualty ID or the Surname of the Berkhamstedian you are searching for, you do not need to fill in fields in the third box.

You may fill in as many fields in the third box as required, but note that the number of results will decrease as you increase the specificity of your search.
